web Hosting

Web domains. Hosting. Content. These are the three top priorities for any webmaster, regardless of how experienced they are. Unfortunately, these three essentials often leave people in the dark, as there are dozens of companies offering the “same” packages for different prices. With an overflow of routes you could take, it can get mind boggling to figure out the appropriate steps. For this reason, instructions are essential if you are looking for a smooth path

Once you have made your decision, you need to find a reputable service. While searching for hosting companies on Google may seem appropriate, it often stems bad results. It is important to remember that just because it is listed on a search engine, doesn't mean it is 100% safe and legit. Therefore, if you do find a potential company, you should get a second opinion. It is usually smart to join a webmaster related forum like SitePoint to discuss such matters. This way you can hear about other people's experiences and what companies to avoid. Additional references from friends or family would also be ideal.

For website beginners, web hosting doesn't have to be difficult or even too time consuming. As long as you find reputable sources, second opinions, and a great easy to use package, you are well on your way to website success. With these instructions in mind, there should be no frustrations or year long debates on what company to use. It is quite simple, once you get in the webmaster's frame of mind.

Appreciate Technical Service.

I appreciate In Motion Hosting's customer service. I recently moved a site to their hosting service because of good reviews and BBB ratings. After the transfer, we needed to get our e- mail setup similar to our old server and see how some other aspects would work on the new server. When I have called customer service, they were very helpful, informed, and capable to answer my questions. I am grateful to have talked with several technical support personnel who know how their systems work. I even had a question that stumped one support person

Free Hosting Sites

  • Most come with site builders. If you are hosting a lot of little domains it can take a lot of time to set them up manually. Site builders help.
  • Separate IPs
  • You have a lot of domains you want to eventually build on or sell.
  • If your domain does not have a site attached to it, it does not age. By putting up a page or a few pages of text and getting the site indexed you start an aging process. Google does not put much weight on a brand new site. Start the aging process while your domain is waiting for you to get around to putting up the content you planned for it when you bought it.
  • Aged domains that have some PR also have far more value than unused domains
  • Lack of credibility
  • Most place banners on your page – usually in prime real estate like the top of the page.
  • Most give you a sub domain location or a directory within their site (mysite.theirsite.com or theirsite.com/my site/)
  • It’s free – if you have a lot of domains this can make a difference.

A domain is your identity online

It separates you from everyone else - once yours, as long as you keep renewing it, no one else may have it.

There are two parts to a domain - the domain name itself, and the TLD (top level domain) extension.

The most popular TLD is the .com extension - it is synonymous with online business. But due to its popularity, getting a good domain name with '.com' is hard - most have been bought and are not available.

For most domains, the minimum registration duration is one year. Some TLDs such as .US require a minimum of two years. However, most TLDs only require a one year commitment.

The information related to you when buying a domain is publicly available. It is illegal to put in false information, so your personal information can be traced back. If you are worried about that, some registrars like Go Daddy  will register for you as a proxy - your information will not be public. Be prepared for some spam to be sent to that address.

Most TLDs have a meaning behind them - .EDUs are used by educational institutes, and .ORGs are supposed to be used by non-profit organizations. A domain with a TLD of 'co.uk' is very likely British-based. There are other TLDs too, such as .cc, .tv, and .tk. These are all associated with either a company or with a country.

Many hosts will register a domain for you if you do not have one (it must be available though). You need to be careful that the domain is registered in your name and not theirs. Also make sure that they are not overcharging - some hosts charge over twice the average.

Once you have registered a domain, as long as you remember to keep renewing it, no one will be able to take the domain. You may sell the domain to someone else (or even buy somebody else's domain), but no one will be able to just take the domain.

Having your own domain is very important for your business. It sets you apart from everybody else, and gives you a brand to work with.
